I am grateful for the time i was able to spend with my Grandfather. Growing up i was fortunate to spend most of my summer vacations in Creston. Some of my favourite memories were going camping and Fishing with them at Kootenay Lake. My boys were fortunate that they were able to spend time with their Great-Grand Father. Grandpa, Evan and i took a trip up the Lake together to go fishing during one of our visits to Creston. We had a great day, didn't catch anything but that wasn't what the trip was about. Grandma stayed home as she didn't feel like with us "just to cook lunch". We enjoyed our day together and i am sure Grandma enjoyed her quiet time.

My great-grandpa was one of the most important people in my life. I loved him dearly and not a day has gone by I don't think about him. He taught me how to play the organ and how to water ski, he played dress up with me and my sister letting us put ponytails in his hair whenever we came to visit. We went tobogganing in his backyard a million times (the same backyard my husband I got married in, and my favourite place on earth) I remember spending hours playing down by the 'crick' as he called it. When I'd sleepover at his house when I was a kid he'd let me stay up late to watch unsolved mysteries with him when I'm sure my grandmother thought I was sleeping.
I am truly grateful I got to have him in my life and my children's lives as long as we did. They wished to share their own memories of their great-great-grandpa as well.
From Claire - My favourite memories with great great grandpa are when I was little, he took me sledding in his backyard. I remember how we went down the hill at least 20 times. One of my other favourite memories is when he taught me how to play a bit of harmonica. Great-grandpa was so full of life and I loved him very much.
From Lincoln - My favourite memory of great grandpa was every time that I saw him, he would give me a hug and after he would let me have one of his gummy bears. That's why he was the best great-grandpa.

I remember falling in to a creek when Dad was fishing upstream and both Mom and Dad jumped in to save me. I said to Dad "i didn't see and fishes" ....
My Children and Husband Grant went to see my Parents every Summer. I eventually retired in Creston myself to be close to Mom and Dad.
Mom and i did a lot of activities together doing Crafts for Church and Charity.
All of my Children , Kim, Lisa and Brent also enjoyed our time on the Lake , especially water skiing and general boating.
Dad loved it all, Family was everything to him.
I miss him, TTFN for now !!

We are thankful for the 100 years and 7 months of Dad's Life we were privileged to be part of.
He gave to us his Wisdom, his Love of Life, his Love for our Mother and Importance of Family.
He always wanted us to connect with as many Aunt's, Uncles and Cousins as possible.
We will pass his sense of Family to the next Generation of our extended Family.
His wish was to live as long as he possibly could as to not leave the Love of his Life Thelma behind.
He never wanted to say goodbye after our visits or even on the Phone, preferring to say TTFN.
In his waning days on this Earth, he mentioned that he had 3 Daughters and a Wife, after that he rarely spoke, he made Peace with his Accomplishments and Goals he had set for his Life and his Family.
We will meet him in Heaven one day.

It's hard to put into words the relationship I shared with my Grandpa Ray.
He was my one and only grandpa and every summer I was lucky enough to go on more adventures or learn more hobbies with him.
Whether it be fishing, camping, how to play the mouth organ or sing at the top of your lungs while he played the guitar, spending time with him was never dull.
I miss him every moment of every day and I think of him often when I pass by my tackle box or walk around the lake.
I thank him for the life lessons that he taught me and how he instilled in me that being strong at your weakest moments is extremely important.
I am grateful and honoured to share a name with him and I will miss him always.
All my love always to Grandpa,
Samantha Rae

Raymond's wisdom was as vast as the universe, his thoughts shaped our world with a creative touch. He painted life's canvas with simple beauty, bringing music to our ears and dance to our feet. His legacy of nurturing Earth's bounties shows in the fruits that bear his gentle touch. Our hearts sail on Kootenay lake, holding dear memories of afternoons spent fishing and boating under Raymond's love-filled gaze. In treasured reflections we find joy, cherishing each memory close to heart.

My Grandpa was a wise, creative, stoic man...
I have gratitude in remembering watching and listening to him playing one of his various instruments in the living room; as I danced along to the music as a child.
I am so glad I got to watch my children enjoy the same experience with their Great Grandpa many years later.
My summer visits included walks on the property, as he showed me the bounty that cultivation of the lands offerings can produce. He and Grandma would pick the fruits and vegetables that they grew, and preserve them to get them through another year.
I remember many days spent riding in the back of he and Grandmas camper van; going up to Kootenay lake, to enjoy an afternoon picnic on the glimmering water at the lake. He loved fishing and boating and he shared those passions with us.
He taught us to appreciate the simple beauty that life has to offer. I feel happy as I reflect upon so many memories that I cherish close to my heart.

Tribute to Dad
I am overwhelmed by memories of my Father. I want to bundle up all of the memories and sift through them one by one. I think about Dad as a young boy, running, winning medals with his loving Mother watching and cheering him on. The young boy rounding up horses in Coleman and riding his bike from town to town Or I think of Dad as a young man fishing, playing the guitar and harmonica and raising three daughters. I remember the discipline with which Dad lived his life and the love he expressed for his wife Thelma, his three daughters, grand-children and great grand children.
I revisit all of the memories and I smile when I think about all the fun I had water skiing and the lessons he taught me about safety and the ritual of checking the house to make sure everything was in order. So many memories and such as long life. I am so proud that Dad lived to be 100.
I miss you Dad, I always will miss you but I am so lucky to have you as a father. Thank you.

I think of a lot of special memories when I think of my grandpa. Many summers spent visiting at the house, hours spent downstairs swimming in the hot tub, watching soap operas, playing rummy & hot potato, and the best of all was giving grandpa all the best hairstyles a little girl could give.
I cherish all of the time we had with him and it always warms my heart to know he was able to meet both my children.
I’ll love him forever and share his memories ofte.

Grandpa fills years of memories. Growing up our every summer we were parented by my grandparents. They taught us how to garden, care for fruit trees, the importance of respecting others by not mowing a lawn on a Sunday morning. Filled us with family history. Grandpa was so musically talented playing instrument by ear and not sheet music. He had such a special bond with my daughter Hannah, he was in the hospital when she was born and would come sit in the hospital room with us and just watch over her. The story from grandpa about D day and the planes flying from the runway and filling the air is one my son Kye will always cherish. Grandpa always had time to share with me and my children. From playing games with them to going fishing, there was no end to his love for us. There was always time for a cup of tea for anyone who came to visit. We are all better people for the time we spent with him.

At age five, my grandfather (Ray Destobel) taught me how to fish. I could catch them; but was terrified to touch them. At age eight, he taught me how to fly-fish (and waterski). From that age on; we spent most days in the summers in our matching hip-waders, knee deep in icy streams…casting our lines into the cool pools behind the rocks. I will miss my fishing buddy; but will never pass a mountain stream without thinking of you! Love you always Grandpa.
