Obituary of Robert John Marshall

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce that our amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Robert (Bob) John Marshall has passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on September 22, 2022, at the age of 87.

Bob was born on June 19, 1935, in Creston, BC to parents Robert and Margaret Marshall.  He lived in this beautiful valley for his entire life.  After high school, Bob completed an apprenticeship program as a Heavy Duty Mechanic with the BC Ministry of Highways.  He continued to work at the Ministry when his apprenticeship was completed, until his retirement as Assistant Shop Foreman, in 1991.  He took great pride in maintaining the fleet of equipment responsible for road maintenance and safety within the district.  There wasn’t a job that he couldn’t tackle, whether mechanical, electrical or carpentry.  If there was a way he could engineer something, he did it.

In 1957 he married Ella Frolak.  They were married for 56 years, until she passed in 2013.  They had three children: Sharlene, Debbie, and Dale.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman with a deep love and respect for the mountains and rivers in the Valley.  He was a great storyteller and we all loved to listen to his recounting of the latest hunting and fishing adventures.  He passed on that love of nature to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was also really great at “finding” ways to win while playing cards and games with his grandkids.

Bob and Ella had a particular love for the mountains in Yahk country and spent many happy years camping, fishing, digging for antique bottles and frog hunting with grandkids.  There are many memories of picnics, fishing, and camping trips up the Goat River, Back of Yahk, and Little Moyie.  Bob was always up for a quad ride and enjoyed this sport with his good friend Ron right up to age 86.

Bob’s legacy continues with children, Sharlene (Gary), Debbie (Rick), Dale (Alison), grandchildren, Caylee (Ryan), Ryan, Erin (Ben), Ian (Jessica), Lauren and Jack, and great-grandchildren, Liliana and Yvette.  He will also be greatly missed by his dear friends, including Ron and Donna Phillips, and the families of his siblings Doreen Eastman, Elevera Hedlund and Colin Marshall (2012).

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the staff at the Creston Valley Hospital, Crestview Village, and Bob’s homecare workers.

Dad gave his family life, love, laughter, and many lessons.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, 28 Oki Drive NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6A8.
