Obituary of Alan Gordon Armstrong

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Alan Gordon Armstrong on March 20th, 2022, in Creston BC at the age of 69 years.

Alan was born on January 3, 1953, to Joan and Gordon Armstrong at the Creston Valley Hospital.  After growing up in Erickson, Alan travelled around BC and the United States playing hockey as a goalie for a number of teams. He was also a founding member of the Creston Rec City Baseball Club. Alan coached many youth teams and worked many years with the Junior A Creston Thunder Hockey team, he was known as “the voice of the Thunder”.

Alan worked many different avenues during his working life, notably Magoo’s Deli, which was a gathering place for the community for years. He also took great pride in broadcasting with the Local Creston radio station. He had an extraordinary gift of organizing which included river runs, people parties, midge creek, and boxing day gatherings. Alan had a passion for travel and adventure, in particular, he found immense joy in the people and culture of Mexico. He had made a connection with the Oregon family of La Penita, Mexico, and became an extended part of their family. He had brought two members of the family to Creston to further their education.

Alan was an incredible man, full of optimism, humour, wit, charm, adventure, and had a great love for his family and friends. He taught us to admire all of life's beauty and bounty that surrounds us and to never take any of it for granted. He always believed in us and all we could achieve, to reach for the stars and never let anything get in our way. To dance, travel, explore, and celebrate through all of life's rhythms. He loved the Creston Valley and found comfort in the seasonal expressions of Kootenay Lake. He was born here and will rest peacefully here. His colourful spirit will always be with us.

Alan is survived by his two daughters, Reina and Cianna, his wife Paula, as well as his sisters Rae, Leslee, and Pam, and their families.
