Obituary of Jennifer Dawn Shirreff (nee Glosser)

Please share a memory of Jennifer to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jennifer Dawn Shirreff (nee Glosser) on January 26, 2022, at Cranbrook, BC at the age of 56 years.

Jennifer was born to parents Kitty and Doyle Glosser on August 2, 1965, at Prince George, BC.  While growing up in Prince George, it was here that she developed a love for horses with siblings and friends.  Living up on Opal Drive, she borrowed $150.00 to purchase her first horse, learning how to work so that she could pay for her passion.

Jennifer left home to work, ending up in High Level, AB with her sister, she worked at the sawmill and had numerous positions throughout the plant.  She was a hard worker, witty, fun-loving, and showed leadership skills, she was also high spirited, like the horses she loved.  Jennifer started her family and took interest in materials management at the warehouse.  She started with updating her education and in the warehouse with hands on experience and continued her interests in her career and education.  She eventually moved her family to Athabasca, AB to pursue her career and university education with Al Pac.

In November of 2008, Jennifer met Michael in Athabasca, AB and in August of 2009 they were married.  Jennifer moved to the farm in Valleyview, where she had a blank slate for farmyard and home.  Jennifer’s eye for detail and design made for a wonderful place for them to live.  She continued to work for Amec at Albian sands as contract administrator, until she had to quit due to high blood pressure issues.  She then went to Grande Prairie to work, and it was here that she became involved with Weston Reiner’s, competitively riding reining horses.  She loved the people she competed with, calling it the most fun she had riding horses.  Jennifer became a valued part of the farm, working with cows and helping with the harvest.  The farm was sold in 2015 and Jennifer’s request was to move somewhere with warmer winters.

They moved to Creston to enjoy the warmer winters and celebrated Jennifer’s 50th birthday, holding a memorable party for all who attended.  Once again, Jennifer was given free rein on the house and yard and did not disappoint.  She continued to work at Meg Energy, where she was respected and had a large social circle of friends.  Jennifer took great pride in her yard and home, spending countless hours working on it.  The first years spent skiing and travelling south of the border were some of the best times.

The tragic death of her daughter in 2017 became the start of the demise of Jennifer’s health.  Sick as she was, she attended every court day and hearing, right to the final day of judgement.  She even made designer cups for the crown prosecutors, labeling them justice juice.  Her health struggles continued, and with Covid-19 restrictions, made it even harder.  In 2021, when doctors were ready to give up on her, she battled back, and walked out the front door of the ICU in Cranbrook.  This brought us a valued year, which we are so grateful for.

Jennifer is predeceased by her parents (Kitty) Marie (nee Ridsdale) and Doyle Glosser, daughter Chantelle, brother Allan, and sister Marlene.

Jennifer will be lovingly remembered by her husband Michael, son Cody, grandson Hudson, family members Glenda and Clive, Richard, Robert and Darla, twin sister Jackie and Delbert, Debbie and Ron, Terry and Bruce, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends from the horse shows and work.
