Obituary of Charles David Apponen

Charles David Apponen passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021, at Creston, BC at the age of 73 years.

Charles was born on November 11, 1947, at Calgary, AB to parents Oscar Nilo and Annie Lily Apponen. He believed that when life throws a curve ball, you find another dream.  Charles and his loving wife of 53 years, best friend of 63 years, Barb, moved from Calgary to Caroline, AB to live in the cabin they had built in the forest, while winters were spent south.  Their first trip south, it rained all the way, they eventually found the sun in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Mexico.  Their final and best move was to Creston, BC. Charles built planters with the wood he had and gave them all away to friends and neighbours.  Barb had once asked for a floating ironing board, so Charles built for her a wall shelving unit for her quilting fabric instead.

Charles enjoyed talking to strangers.  He once spent 45 minutes talking to an oil worker who had worked in Dubai.  He was always kind to strangers, children, and animals.  Charles loved his dogs, he had many over his lifetime, his favourite being BJ.

Charles was predeceased by his parents Annie Lily and Oscar Nilo Apponen.

Charles will be dearly missed by his wife Barb, daughter Shelley Walsh and her partner Jason Lewis, granddaughters Madison (Jim) Willis and Taylor, brother Don (Marilyn) Apponen, nephews Steven and Doug Apponen and their families.

No Celebration of Life Service to be held.
