Obituary of Beneatta Anna Mary Teskey

Please share a memory of Beneatta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beneatta Anna Mary Teskey passed away peacefully at Swan Valley Lodge, with daughter Tina by her side, on July 16, 2021, at the age of 77 years.

Beneatta was born on April 20, 1944, at 26-03-53-2, near Ranger, SK to parents Benjamen and Lydia (nee Lowery) Teskey and they lived on their homestead in Ranger, SK.  Beneatta was named after her dad, he passed away three months before she was born.  A couple years after Benjamen passed away, Lydia and her four children moved to Leoville to live.

On July 30, 1960, Beneatta married Arthur Dagenais in Leoville, SK. They had seven children and adopted two later in life. Mom (Beneatta) kept busy with changing diapers and moving around with dad as the jobs changed. They finally settled in the Nipawin area for some time. While dad worked, Mom would look after all of us, as we were little rascals. We knew she could not catch us when we would run away, but we were always fooled because we would have to come home to eat. Mom would be waiting threatening to tell dad when he came home, but she never would never tell him. Mom was a soft, kind, and passionate women. Don't get me wrong, there were a few times that Irish temper would come out and then you were in trouble. Mom was known for her cooking especially her homemade bread. She would put in a large garden, milk the cows, and look after the chickens. She was known to knock out a goose after it bit her.  After a full day of home and farm work, Mom would take one of the kids with her to do about 6 hours of janitorial work every evening. I would have to say Mom has taught us a lot of what we know today, as we all grew up to be hard working and independent.

Mom moved to Kindersley to help her sister Myrtle with the phone answering service until it was sold. Mom then lived at different towns where her children resided. She settled in Creston, BC to be near her daughter Tina. Mom loved travelling around, taking photos, and investigating areas that the Teskeys resided to gather information on her father's family. She would take pictures of what we thought were just landscapes and sure enough if you looked closely there was a bird or animal in the photo. We would call these pictures “where is it hiding”. Later mom spent a lot of time playing games on the computer with several friends online until her dementia made it impossible. Mom will be greatly missed by all of her children and all that knew her as she was a very beautiful person.

Beneatta was predeceased by her daughter Evelyn Olineck, grandparents Hugh and Justina (nee Andres) Lowery, Mr & Mrs. John Teskey, parents Benjamen and Lydia Teskey, brothers James Teskey, Hughie Teskey, Charles Teskey and sister Myrtle Crouch.

Beneatta leaves to cherish her memory her children Joyce (Perry) Watts of Nipawin, SK, Justina (Dietmar) Rake of Creston, BC, Ruth (Lyle) Friesen of Rocky Mountain House, AB, Angelina (Dale) Parker of Marsden, SK, Coreen Dagenais of Rocky Mountain House, AB, Arthur (Michelle) Dagenais of Lloydminster, SK, Richard (Sarah) Dagenais of Grand Prairie, AB and Suzette Dagenais of Lethbridge, AB, brothers Richard Teskey of Regina, SK and Mark Teskey of Prince Albert, SK, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Beneatta will be laid to rest with her father Benjamen at the cemetery in Ranger, SK with a private family service.

Mom we love you.
