Obituary of Helen Steinbachs (nee Gangur)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Steinbachs (nee Gangur) on May 5, 2023, in Creston, BC, at the age of 79 years.

Helen was born on July 13, 1943, in Sumece, Croatia, to parents Anne and Vasil Gangur. Helen taught for several school boards in Ontario, mostly Waterloo, retiring from her 37 years of service in 1999. She spent 15 years offering private tutoring. She absolutely loved being a teacher.

In 2008, she and Uldis moved to Ridgetown, renovated a historic home, and tended a fabulous garden. They relocated to Creston, BC in August of 2020 to be closer to their daughters Janet of Surrey, BC and Jennifer of Sandpoint, ID.

Helen was predeceased by her mother Anne Gangur, father Vasil Gangur, sisters Anne McKee, Mary Gangur, and Femja Delevich, brothers Sam and James Gangur, nephew George Gangur, and niece Helen Montgomery.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Uldis, daughter Jennifer (Phillip) Steinbachs, grandson Ivan, daughter Janet (Chris) Barrett, grandchildren Emma, Devin, and Jocelyn, as well as her sister Manda Gangur.

A Private Family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
