Obituary of Veronica Evelyn Floer

Please share a memory of Veronica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Your Mother

Is Always with You.

She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street,

She’s the smell of certain foods you remember,

Flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself.

She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well,

She's your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day.

She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,

The colours of a rainbow, she is Christmas morning.

Your mother lives inside your laughter.

She’s the place you came from, your first home,

And she’s the map you follow with every step you take.

She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy,

But nothing on Earth can separate you.

Not time, not space.. not even death.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing on February 5, 2023, of VERONICA EVELYN FLOER, age 98. Surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully, to be reunited with her loving husband HAROLD, who predeceased VERONICA by only 95 days.

Veronica was born on August 19, 1924, in Raymond, MT to parents Jacob and Lydia Schikurski.  With their family of nine children, they moved to Minton, SK where Veronica attended school. Veronica then moved to Winnipeg, MB to work with her older sisters.  On one of her trips back to Minton, she met the love of her life, Harold Floer, at a dance hall.  Veronica and Harold married on October 16, 1947, in Minton where they farmed for a few years before returning to Harold’s hometown of Creston, BC to stay for the remainder of their lives.  They celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary with their entire family in August 2022.

Mom was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her claim to fame was her love of gardening and growing beautiful flowers, her amazing hostess ability to the many friends and family that always showed up at their home, her dancing skills with her life partner and most of all, her unmatched cooking skills!

Mom is lovingly remembered by her children Val (Dusty), Bryan (Jane), Cindy (Dwight), and Sherryl (Darrell), grandchildren Jacey, Lise, Pam, Christina, Katy, Ryan, Noel, Elizabeth, Tristan, and Trey, as well as their partners and 10 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Mom’s doctor, Karen Persad; the CrestView Village management and staff; Interior Health Palliative Care Program and the Creston Valley Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday August 5, 2023, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church for both Harold and Veronica Floer.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make memorial contribution may do so to Swan Valley Lodge, PO Box 1880, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0 or Creston Valley Hospital - Palliative Care Program, Bag 3000, Creston, BC V0B 1G0.
