Obituary of Stephen Graham Reid

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved brother, father, grandfather and friend Stephen 'Steve' Graham Reid passed away on July 14, 2022, in Kelowna, BC at the age of 67 years.

Steve was born in Calgary, AB but moved to Creston when he was a small boy. His family of five at the time, then grew to a family of eight. Upon leaving high school Steve followed in his father’s footsteps and began to work at the Sawmill. Later he moved to Chase then Brooks where he met the love of his life Judy Jennissen. They married August 29, 1978 and started their family with the birth of daughters Janice in 1984 and Melisa in 1987. The family moved to the lower mainland where Steve worked as a butcher at multiple establishments before ending his career at the Dargatz Mink Ranch when the many years of tough work forced retirement. Steve, Judy and Janice decided to make the move back to Creston in 2013 to be closer to family, especially his grandkids. Steve will always be fondly remembered by each person who was lucky enough to call him family or friend. Steve worked hard to keep a roof overhead and food on the table. He was the strong silent type, until he got to know you, then it was all jokes, or endless stories of camping and fishing adventures. His big deep belly laugh is one thing that will not be soon forgot. Steve would beam light while talking about his family. He was a very proud Grandpa who would always carry a pocket full of change saved for his grandkids at each visit. Grandson Austin’s favourite memory is the time he almost dragged Steve into Duck Lake by accidentally snagging him with a fish hook. They had many days out fishing but that’s a memory that would always bring up laughs. His brothers tell many stories of fishing as well, and Steve’s unmatched patience. They both knew to never be in the way when that rod bounced because Steve would be on it in an instant. He was a gentle man who cared deeply for the people in his life, and would give
even when he had very little himself. His nightly calls and texts will be missed by many, just to check in and to tell them that he loved them, and to hear all about their good or bad days. He would always lend an ear and be there to help the best that he could.

Steve is survived by sisters Gladice Kambeitz, Anita (Randy) Reid, Eileen (Bob) McDaniel, brothers Rod (Christine) Reid and Randy (Donna) Reid, daughters Janice and Melisa (Andrew) McInnis, and his three grandchildren Austin Cromar, Adella and Conor McInnis.

He was pre-deceased by wife Judy, and parents Graham and Agnes Reid.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
