Obituary of Clay John McPherson

Please share a memory of Clay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Clay John McPherson; a son, a father, a brother, an uncle, a friend passed away on July 19, 2022. He is again with his sister Heidi.

He will be held in spirit by his son, Matthew (Amy); his mom (Eleanor); his sister (Kendall); his niece Dylann (Levi); great nephews Foster and Ruben; and his great niece Ivy. His memory will also be cherished by his soul siblings Leisa, Eric and Jack.

Clay was loved by so many people throughout his life. He had a way of easy camaraderie that would pull people in to sit awhile; share stories, laugh, be silly or be serious. A humble person he was a musician (wicked harmonica player) as well as guitar player, a singer/songwriter, an inventor, a wood carver, story teller, thoughtful conversationalist and was at his happiest when outdoors - simply being, walking, canoeing, hiking.

Clay had the type of intelligence born of curiosity. His breadth of knowledge was impressive, and shared freely when the opportunity was right. He would research the darndest things that interested him. An avid reader of National Geographic since childhood he was the go-to
person for random tidbits of information and also the person you wanted on your team in Trivial Pursuit. He could debate many points and was a respectful listener.

Clay moved to Ymir 20+ years ago and settled on a piece of land subsequently named Rancho Retardo, in honour of his laid back lifestyle. Many people have passed through the property to sit around the fire and have a beer, sing, visit, roast a weiner or two, laugh, and be in a welcoming place. He was affectionately known as “The Sheriff” in Ymir town when visiting the store or sitting at the picnic table.

Clay's laughter was infectious and he had the kind of laugh that would make you smile as his eyes would light up, and it was obvious the delight he was experiencing.

He was held in so much love in his passing and will be so missed by so many.

Special thanks and much love to Kerry Rae for her quick and thorough response.
Thanks to all emergency responders and Dr. Nic Sparrow with KERPA
