Obituary of Kathleen Picton

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

KATHLEEN PICTON (Polischuk), known to many as “Connie” was born September 24, 1929, in Dalemead, AB to Andrew and Mary Picton.  She was the third of six children, brothers, Allan, Peter and George, and sisters Sharon and infant Shirley.

Mom grew up on a farm outside of Kamsack, SK where she met and later married our father, Paul Polischuk on October 26, 1947. They raised five children, Bernard, Renita, Cindy, Joanne, and Kathleen.  Sadly, she lost her daughter, Joanne, an RCMP officer, on April 21, 2005, after a tragic car accident on May 23, 1979, left her with serious injuries requiring long term care for 26 years.

After our parents divorced, our Mom moved to Manitoba after meeting and marrying her second husband, Gabriel Arcand in 1972.  Unfortunately, the marriage ended, and we moved Mom and Joanne from Winnipeg to Calgary AB where she lived for several years.  She decided later on that she wanted to move to Chilliwack BC where her two remaining brothers, Peter and George and their families resided. The RCMP graciously assisted us in transporting Joanne via air to Chilliwack where she resided in a private care facility until her passing in 2005.

Mom remained in Chilliwack for a few more years but in 2012 decided she wanted to go back to Alberta where her three daughters currently resided.  She lived in Calgary once again until 2014 when she chose to follow her eldest daughter, Renita and her partner, Bernie Barabash to Vernon BC where they resided until 2018.  Once again, they all moved to the Kootenays where she spent the last 3 years of her life with her daughter in Creston or at their beautiful log home along the eastern shores of Kootenay Lake. Mom loved the lake house and spent many hours snoozing in the sun on one of the decks with her little dog, Taffy on her lap.

Mom passed away peacefully at the Creston Valley Hospital on July 28, 2021, with her daughter by her side and their German Shepherd, Tazz who had a very special bond with Mom.

She was predeceased by her three brothers, her infant sister, and her daughter Joanne. She leaves to celebrate her life as the kind, thoughtful loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother she was, her four remaining children, Bernard (Pammy), of Catonsville MD, Renita (Bernie) of Creston, BC, Cindy (Vince) of Vernon, BC, Kate (Rick) of Peachland, BC, 5 grandchildren  Kelly (Diana) Boulding and great granddaughters, Tessa and Eleonora, Krista Boulding and great granddaughter, Ayla and grandchildren Katie, Aaron, and Dane Kerluke.

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no formal service.  However, her immediate family will definitely have a celebration of her life at a later date.

If so desired, Mom would very much appreciate if you chose to make a donation to the SPCA or local animal shelter of your choice.
